Beirut: The political bureau of the Kataeb Party, led by party leader MP Sami Gemayel, convened to discuss current national issues and released a statement highlighting several key topics.
According to National news agency - Lebanon, marking the sixth anniversary of the Beirut port explosion, the party emphasized the ongoing wait for truth and justice by Lebanese citizens, especially the families of those affected. The party paid homage to Kataeb members who perished in the explosion, including Secretary-General Nazar Najarian, Joe Akiki, Joe Andoun, and Tony Baramki.
The Kataeb Party strongly urged the Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation to expedite the legal process, leading to indictments and trials to hold all responsible parties accountable, regardless of their status. The party believes this will aid in restoring trust in the judiciary and reinforce accountability.
Additionally, the Kataeb political bureau welcomed the State Shura Council's decision to halt the Finance Ministry's circular aimed at transferring village common lands to state ownership. The party described this as a significant step in preserving the historical rights of villages and their residents, and reiterated the importance of protecting communal lands as part of local communities' historical and legal rights.
Regarding ongoing negotiations in Rome, the party supported strengthening diplomatic efforts to end the conflict, asserting that only the Lebanese state should represent Lebanon in such negotiations. Achieving this requires the government to swiftly implement decisions to bring all weapons under state control, which would help end hostilities, secure an Israeli withdrawal, and enhance state authority across Lebanon.
The political bureau also underscored the importance of the Mountain Reconciliation, highlighting it as evidence that genuine political will can overcome past conflicts and aid in national rebuilding. The reconciliation was facilitated by the 2000 meeting between former President Amin Gemayel and Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt, following Gemayel's return from exile, and was solidified by a foundational document from the meeting.
The party highlighted that addressing past grievances openly and upholding national partnership are vital for stability, emphasizing that reconciliation is a crucial national choice for protecting Lebanon and strengthening its unity.
