Dimane: Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros Al-Rai held a series of meetings at the patriarchal seat in Dimane on Tuesday, focusing on national sovereignty, security, education, and socioeconomic concerns.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, during the meetings, Rai received Change Movement leader Elie Mahfoud and a delegation. He emphasized that peace and stability are crucial for rescuing Lebanon, protecting its citizens, and reducing emigration. Rai advocated for efforts to shield Lebanon from regional conflicts and suggested that once peace is established, international efforts should be made to present Lebanon's neutrality to the United Nations.
Mahfoud expressed support for President Joseph Aoun's diplomatic initiatives, stressing that full sovereignty requires ending Israeli occupation of Lebanese territory and ensuring that the state has exclusive control over arms and decisions regarding war and peace.
Rai also engaged with delegations from the Center for Educational Research and Development, the Chouf Economic Development Association, and retirees, to discuss education reform, coexistence, and socioeconomic challenges.
In a separate meeting, State Security Director General Major General Edgar Lawandos reaffirmed the agency's commitment to combating corruption despite limited resources. Rai highlighted the increasing burden of the economic crisis, noting that "people are exhausted."
