Beirut: The Municipality of Beiteddine inaugurated on Sunday the town's new public square in a ceremony attended by a wide gathering of political, parliamentary, security, religious, and municipal figures.
According to National news agency - Lebanon, the event was attended by the representative of Interior and Municipalities Minister, MPs Marwan Hamadeh, Georges Adwan, and Farid Boustany, a representative of MP Taymour Jumblatt, Progressive Socialist Party Chouf District Secretary Dr. Omar Ghannam, Internal Security Forces' Mount Lebanon Regional Commander Brig. Gen. Abdo Khalil, and Monsignor Abdo Abou Kassem representing Maronite Bishop Maroun Ammar. Senior security officials from the area were also present alongside other prominent dignitaries and politicians.
In his address, MP Hamadeh praised the municipality and the significance of the occasion, highlighting the historic ties between Beiteddine and Baakline and the area's role during the era of the Chouf Emirate. He emphasized that Beiteddine represents more than just a summer destination and described its presidential palace as a symbol of Lebanon's identity, unity, and aspirations.
Hamadeh expressed aspirations for the liberation of the country, emphasizing the importance of unity and legitimacy. He called for freeing Lebanon from those seeking control through various means and saluted the military forces present at the event.
MP Adwan, in his speech, highlighted Beiteddine's historical and cultural significance. He described the town as a living page of Lebanon's history and emphasized the town's role in reconciliation and coexistence. Adwan expressed hopes that the new square would serve as a meeting place for reconciliation and cultural activities, thereby strengthening community ties and promoting local development.
Both MPs underscored the importance of partnership, state rule, and law in building Lebanon's future and emphasized the significance of preserving Beiteddine's heritage for future generations.
