French Ambassador and Lebanese Finance Minister Discuss Key Issues

Beirut:Finance Minister Yassine Jaber met with French Ambassador to Lebanon Patrick Durel, accompanied by Jean-Baptiste Chauvel, head of the Regional Economic Department, to discuss significant developments in Lebanon and mutual interests.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, the discussions concentrated on the situation in South Lebanon and the conclusion of UNIFIL's mission. Both parties emphasized the need for a gradual transition to prevent a security vacuum and to enhance the Lebanese Army's presence and capabilities.

The meeting also tackled Lebanon's ongoing energy crisis and the global pressures on the oil market, stressing the importance of implementing reforms to ensure the sector's financial and economic sustainability.

Jaber updated Durel on the Lebanese government's reform agenda, including efforts to secure an agreement with the International Monetary Fund. He underscored the necessity of continued French support for Lebanon's financial and economic recovery efforts.

Additionally, Jaber expressed gratitude to France for backing the Lebanese Army and the reform process, as well as for its £75 million contribution to the World Bank-supported reconstruction fund. Both parties reiterated the significance of ongoing Lebanese-French collaboration to promote stability, reform, and reconstruction initiatives.
