Ministry Launches Campaign to Prevent Flooding by Reducing Littering

Beirut:The Ministry of Public Works and Transport announced a new initiative aimed at reducing littering around stormwater drains and drainage channels as winter approaches. This campaign seeks to prevent potential flooding by ensuring that drainage systems remain clear.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, the campaign coincides with ongoing cleaning and maintenance efforts conducted by the ministry. The focus of the initiative is to highlight that simply cleaning drains is insufficient if waste continues to be discarded into them. Litter can obstruct water flow during rainfall, leading to flooding on roads.

The ministry emphasized that maintaining these completed works is a collective responsibility. It called on all relevant authorities to fulfill their roles and urged citizens to avoid littering on roads. The campaign's message states "Let's not throw our achievements out the window! Last winter, we succeeded together. This winter, we won't let anything set us back. Don't litter, so you don't block the drains."
