FURIES Chosen as Lebanon’s Entry for 2027 Oscars

Beirut:The Minister of Culture, Dr. Ghassan Salamé, has announced that the film FURIES, directed by Rami Kadi, will represent Lebanon in the 2027 Academy Awards for the Best International Feature Film category. According to National news agency - Lebanon, the decision was made following a recommendation by a committee appointed by the Ministry of Culture. The committee, led by the Director General of Cultural Affairs, unanimously approved the film based on several criteria, including its subject matter, direction, screenplay, and technical execution. FURIES explores the impact of Lebanon's financial collapse, focusing on the story of Marou, a mother striving to access her frozen bank funds for her sister Dalia's medical treatment. As the bank refuses to release the funds and Dalia's health worsens, the sisters plan a daring overnight robbery to get their money back. The situation escalates when they involve a former militia member and a truck driver. The film highlights themes of sisterhood, resilience, an d the struggle of individuals to regain their dignity amid societal turmoil.
