Salam and US Treasury Secretary Discuss Lebanon’s Economic Reforms and IMF Talks

Washington:Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent at the US Treasury Department. Finance Minister Yassine Jaber and Lebanon's Ambassador to the United States Nada Hamadeh Mouawad were also present during the discussions.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, the talks primarily concentrated on the economic and financial relations between Lebanon and the United States. Prime Minister Salam highlighted the progress made by Lebanon's government in implementing financial and banking reforms and the measures being undertaken to mitigate the effects of the financial crisis and revive the banking sector.

The meeting also included negotiations with the International Monetary Fund and cooperation with the World Bank, where Salam requested US support to advance these negotiations and secure backing for Lebanon's reform and economic recovery initiatives.

Additionally, the discussions addressed Lebanon's efforts to reduce the cash economy, limit transactions outside the formal financial system, enhance transparency and compliance, and combat money laundering and terrorist financing. These steps are aimed at rebuilding confidence in Lebanon's financial sector and strengthening its integration into the international financial system.
