Tripoli Protest Highlights Landfill Crisis and Environmental Concerns

Tripoli:Protesters, including activists, trade unionists, and local officials, gathered outside Tripoli's landfill near the Abu Ali River, drawing attention to the site's critical situation as it has reached capacity. The waste overflow is affecting the cities of Al-Fayhaa, raising significant concerns.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, Shadi Al-Sayyed, head of the Northern Lebanon Workers and Employees Union, described the situation in Tripoli as an "environmental and health disaster." He attributed the crisis to the inaction of the government and the Al-Fayhaa Municipalities Union.

Al-Sayyed called on Tripoli Mayor Abdul Hamid Karimeh and local Members of Parliament to step in and advocate for a long-term solution to the landfill issue.

Samir Al-Hajj, head of a civic committee, also voiced criticism, stating that the temporary measures currently in place are inadequate and fail to tackle the fundamental causes of the waste management problem.
