UNIFIL Condemns Attack on Peacekeepers Near Kfar Shouba

Kfar Shouba:A UNIFIL position near Kfar Shouba was hit by several rounds of small arms fire on Wednesday morning, impacting the area along the Blue Line in Sector East.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, peacekeepers at the site immediately sought shelter after the initial firing began, and fortunately, there were no injuries. The gunfire mainly struck the perimeter wall of the UNIFIL position, but some rounds also hit accommodation units and UN vehicles within the base, with several impacts recorded.

UNIFIL has expressed that the continuation of such firings toward a clearly marked position is unacceptable, as it endangers the lives of peacekeepers stationed there. An investigation is underway to determine the details surrounding the incident.

The organization emphasized the importance of adhering to international law to ensure the safety and security of UN personnel and properties. UNIFIL condemned the attack, highlighting that it constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law and the Security Council Resolution 1701, potentially amounting to a war crime.
