Kataeb Party Demands Judicial Action and Ban on Hezbollah’s Military Activities

Accra:The Kataeb Party's Political Bureau, chaired by party leader MP Samy Gemayel, has urged Lebanese authorities to take decisive action following the recent seizure of an explosives shipment. The bureau called for accountability from those involved and their superiors.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, the bureau's statement emphasized the need for immediate measures to protect national security, following what they described as Hezbollah lawmakers' acknowledgment of responsibility. The Kataeb Party reiterated its demand for the case to be referred to the Judicial Council and expressed support for the Justice Minister's efforts in this regard.

The party also urged the government to enforce its decisions prohibiting Hezbollah's military and security activities. They called for the immediate confiscation of weapons and explosives stockpiles and the extension of the Lebanese Army's and legitimate security forces' authority throughout the country.

The bureau warned against Lebanon's involvement in another regional conflict supporting Iran. They called for political, security, and legal measures to prevent further displacement and destruction. Additionally, the party accused Hezbollah of maintaining an illicit parallel economy, highlighting risks associated with counterfeit medications and illegal weapons.

The party criticized Hezbollah's practice of paying accommodation allowances to displaced residents, suggesting it could perpetuate displacement and raise concerns about demographic changes. Furthermore, the bureau called for ending the state of war with Israel, securing its withdrawal from Lebanese territory, facilitating the return of displaced residents, and rebuilding affected communities.

During the meeting, members also commemorated Danny Chamoun and former Internal Security Forces Director General Major General Wissam al-Hassan on the anniversaries of their assassinations. They recalled Hassan's role in confronting explosives smuggling and alleged terrorist plots targeting Lebanon.
