Beirut:President Joseph Aoun marked the 36th anniversary of the assassination of engineer Danny Chamoun, paying tribute to his legacy and warning against allowing Lebanon to become an arena for foreign conflicts.
According to National news agency - Lebanon, Aoun emphasized the importance of learning from the years of war, stating that Lebanon must not become a battleground for others' wars or a vehicle for their rivalries, with Lebanese citizens bearing the consequences in lives lost, insecurity, and destruction.
Aoun stressed the need for a renewed commitment to national unity, sovereignty, and independent decision-making. He highlighted that authority over war and peace must rest exclusively with the state and its legitimate institutions.
He concluded by urging that the suffering of the past be transformed into a collective determination to build a strong and just state that protects all citizens and prevents the recurrence of tragedies that have cost Lebanon dearly.
