AD Ports Group and Somali Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy Sign MoU to Boost Maritime Sector.


ABU DHABI: AD Ports Group (ADX: ADPORTS), a prominent facilitator of global trade, logistics, and industry, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Somali Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy. The agreement aims to explore joint investments and development opportunities in Somalia’s fisheries, ports, and maritime sectors.

According to Emirates News Agency, the MoU outlines potential collaborations that focus on integrating fish ports and processing plants, establishing a maritime monitoring centre and stations, upgrading port infrastructure, creating integrated fishing ports, and building a technical vocational training school. AD Ports Group, with its extensive experience in managing ports, economic cities, free zones, and providing integrated multimodal logistics services, plans to leverage its expertise in collaboration with the Somali Ministry to advance the nation’s maritime and fisheries sectors.

In recent years, AD Ports Group has secured concessions in the ports, maritime, an
d logistics sectors across several African nations, including Egypt, the Republic of Congo, Angola, and Tanzania. The United Arab Emirates, a long-standing ally of Somalia, supports the country’s economic initiatives. Agriculture, which constitutes about two-thirds of Somalia’s economic output, is projected to benefit from the anticipated economic growth of 3.7 percent this year, with a forecasted increase to 4.5 percent in 2025, as per World Bank predictions.

Ahmed Hassan Aden, Somalia’s Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, emphasized the significance of the partnership with AD Ports Group, stating that it lays the foundation for sustainable growth in Somalia’s port infrastructure and fishing industries. He noted that the collaboration would enhance capacity, drive economic development, and create new opportunities for communities dependent on the maritime economy.

Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, Managing Director and Group CEO of AD Ports Group, expressed the group’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s
economic growth through potential investments and collaborations in the country’s ports, fisheries, and maritime sectors. He highlighted the importance of unlocking Somalia’s maritime and fisheries potential by utilizing AD Ports Group’s global expertise and resources to foster long-term growth and regional connectivity.

The MoU also considers cooperation on enforcing and implementing maritime regulations, supporting the development of technology and infrastructure, and exploring project management opportunities of mutual interest.
