Beirut: Interior and Municipalities Minister Ahmad Al-Hajjar has emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring the transparency and integrity of upcoming elections, stating that these principles are guaranteed by law and under his direct oversight. In a statement to "Radio Free Lebanon" on Saturday, Al-Hajjar highlighted the importance of respecting constitutional deadlines as the new mandate begins, and he confirmed that preparations for the municipal and mayoral elections are well underway.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Al-Hajjar expressed confidence in the ministry's readiness for the elections, based on observations from within the ministry and on the ground. He anticipated that the upcoming elections would be a "national celebration." The minister also noted that the number of complaints received so far has been minimal and assured that any submitted to the ministry would be thoroughly investigated. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the directives and instructions for the elections focus on neutrality, integrity, and transparency, with efforts dedicated to uncovering any instances of bribery.
On security issues in the south, Al-Hajjar outlined the state's ongoing efforts to liberate remaining occupied territories, supported by the ceasefire committee. He acknowledged recent incidents in the region and confirmed that investigations have led to the identification of rocket launchers, including members of Hamas, which prompted an Israeli response inside Lebanese territory. The minister assured that investigations would continue, with serious prosecution for anyone found involved. He further highlighted a warning issued to the Hamas movement, describing it as a clear message to prevent any threats to Lebanese security.
