Beirut: Qatari Minister of State Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi has announced a package of development and humanitarian projects in Lebanon, aiming to bolster economic empowerment, education, healthcare, and the voluntary return of Syrians from Lebanon to Syria. These initiatives will be executed through the Qatar Fund for Development in coordination with Lebanese authorities, following established legal and institutional frameworks. Al-Khulaifi's statement was made during a press conference at the Grand Serail alongside Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Tarek Mitri, after Lebanese-Qatari discussions.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the talks at the Grand Serail saw the arrival of Minister Al-Khulaifi and his delegation at around 1:15 p.m., where they were welcomed by Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam. The Lebanese delegation included key ministers such as Finance Minister Yassin Jaber, Energy and Water Minister Joseph Saddi, and Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Ambassador Youssef Raggi. The Qatari side featured Minister Al-Khulaifi, the Qatari Ambassador to Lebanon Sheikh Saud bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, and senior officials from the Qatar Fund for Development.
During the joint press conference, Dr. Mitri highlighted the deep-rooted relationship between Qatar and Lebanon, recalling Qatar's significant support post-2006 and its consistent political backing for Lebanon's sovereignty. He emphasized Qatar's role in supporting the Lebanese Army and its contributions toward the return of displaced Syrians.
Minister Al-Khulaifi expressed gratitude for the hospitality received in Beirut and reaffirmed Qatar's steadfast support for Lebanon amid current regional challenges. He discussed productive meetings with Lebanese officials focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation and exploring economic and investment opportunities.
Al-Khulaifi underscored Lebanon's stability as crucial for regional stability and reiterated Qatar's commitment to supporting Lebanese state institutions. He emphasized the importance of dialogue and prioritizing national interests to fulfill the aspirations of the Lebanese people.
Announcing the developmental and humanitarian projects, Al-Khulaifi stressed Qatar's commitment to supporting Lebanon beyond politics, aiming to develop basic services and strengthen recovery foundations through coordinated efforts with Lebanese authorities.
