Aoun's remarks came during a summit with Greek President Constantine Tassoulas at the Presidential Palace in Athens, where discussions focused on Lebanese-Greek relations, regional stability, and Lebanon's ongoing negotiations with Israel.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Aoun highlighted the necessity for mutual implementation of the US-sponsored framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel, urging Greece's support in this endeavor. He underscored the critical importance of Lebanon's stability for regional peace, warning of potential repercussions if instability persists. Aoun recounted Lebanon's suffering from war, citing significant casualties and destruction, and advocated for diplomacy as the solution to existing conflicts.
Tassoulas expressed Greece's support for Aoun's peace-building efforts and affirmed Greece's commitment to strengthening Lebanon-EU relations during its upcoming EU presidency. He acknowledged the challenges Aoun faces and expressed confidence in his leadership to guide Lebanon toward safety.
The Greek president reiterated the significance of historic ties between the two nations and their shared commitment to international law and peaceful resolutions. He mentioned ongoing efforts to assist Lebanon in achieving independence and peace through the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
