Aoun Mourns Former Qatari Emir, Highlights His Support for Lebanon

Beirut: President of the Republic Joseph Aoun expressed his deep sorrow over the passing of former Qatar Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, saying his death represents a great loss for Qatar, Lebanon, and the Arab world.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, President Aoun remarked on the profound appreciation and loyalty that Lebanon, its president, and its people hold for the late Emir's sincere fraternal positions toward Lebanon. During the Israeli aggression in July 2006, Qatar, under Sheikh Hamad's leadership, provided significant support to Lebanon, mitigating the suffering of its people during a challenging period.

Lebanon is particularly grateful for the initiatives launched by Sheikh Hamad in rebuilding Lebanese villages and towns damaged by the war. These efforts reflected a deep sense of Arab solidarity and responsibility and left a lasting impact on the Lebanese populace.

The late Emir was recognized as a true friend of Lebanon, playing an instrumental role in fostering national reconciliation. His sponsorship of the 2008 Doha Conference was pivotal in resolving a critical phase in Lebanon's modern history, restoring political life to constitutional institutions and helping to secure peace across the nation.
