Aoun Urges Protection of Civilians, Meets Officials and Political Figures Amid Escalation

Beirut: President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, on Thursday called for international pressure on Israel to respect humanitarian law and stop targeting civilians, during talks with a delegation from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. He noted continued violations despite the ceasefire and rising casualties.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Aoun also met UN Special Coordinator Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, who briefed him on efforts to stabilize the ceasefire.

Separately, MPs Razi Hajj and Ahmad Al-Kheir expressed support for the President's approach, emphasizing sovereignty, negotiations, and national unity.

Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel backed the state's authority and negotiation track, while criticizing Hezbollah's role in recent escalations, stressing that restoring stability requires consolidating state authority and supporting the army.
