Aqaba: The Aqaba Green Entrepreneurship Hackathon, a significant event of the Global Entrepreneurship Week 2024, began on Tuesday in Aqaba. The event is organized by the Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship at Princess Sumaya University for Technology, with support from the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), the Aqaba Governorate Council, and in cooperation with the Ministry of Planning and the Royal Scientific Society through the "Irada" initiative. According to Jordan News Agency, the hackathon aims to incubate innovative ideas that contribute to sustainable environmental solutions. Ramzi Kabariti, Commissioner for Youth and Community Development at ASEZA, presided over the opening ceremony. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in empowering youth and enhancing their skills, noting that the event fosters teamwork, creativity, and social skills among participants. Kabariti further highlighted that ASEZA's involvement is part of its strategy to support youth across various sectors , such as students, professionals, entrepreneurs, and innovators. He reiterated the Authority's commitment to creating an enabling environment for youth to present and develop ideas that contribute to sustainable development in crucial areas like renewable energy, waste management, urban development, and climate change mitigation. Wijdan Abu Haija, President of the University, reaffirmed the institution's dedication to integrating sustainable development goals into its academic programs and creating job opportunities for young people, thereby contributing to economic growth. Muhammad Obeidat, Director of the Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship, described the hackathon as a unique platform for showcasing youth creativity and turning ideas into viable projects. He noted that the event enhances participants' competitiveness in the labor market and drives sustainable development. Obeidat added that the first-place winner will receive a cash prize and specialized entrepreneurship training. Winning projects will be incubated by the Royal Scientific Society and the "Irada" program, providing further support from potential employers to develop and implement their ideas.
