CAIRO: The 89th meeting of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Reconstruction commenced on Wednesday, with Saudi Arabia presiding. The gathering, hosted at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League, focuses on the critical issues facing the housing sector across Arab nations, including sustainable development, social housing, and regional cooperation. According to Kuwait News Agency, Abdulrahman Al-Tawil, Saudi Arabia's Undersecretary of the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing and chair of the meeting, emphasized the significance of the meeting in his opening remarks. Al-Tawil highlighted the collective efforts of Arab countries to enhance housing services and utilize resources efficiently. He noted that the meeting would address various crucial topics such as the upcoming Eighth Arab Housing Conference scheduled for December in Algeria, the selection of the theme for Arab Housing Day 2025, and ongoing collaborations with the UN Human Settlements Progr am. The conference agenda includes discussions on the latest developments in the housing sector, challenges, future prospects, and the benefits of exchanging experiences and expertise among member states. Topics of discussion also cover the implementation of the 2030 Global Sustainable Development Plan and the Arab Strategy for Housing and Urban Development. Additionally, the meeting will explore initiatives to support Somalia and Yemen in areas such as training and reconstruction efforts, respectively. Other significant topics include the rehabilitation of cities affected by conflicts, conditions in Arab lands under Israeli occupation, natural disasters, and sustainable housing solutions for Palestine. Representatives from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Qatar, Comoros, and Morocco, along with officials from the Arab League, are participating in this pivotal two-day meeting. This assembly underscores the collaborative efforts of Arab nations to address and overcome the multifaceted challeng es in the housing and construction sectors.
