Arab League Criticizes Israeli Settlement Expansion in West Bank

Cairo: The Arab League Secretary-General, Nabil Fahmy, has voiced strong condemnation of the Israeli authorities' proposal for new settlement projects in the West Bank. Fahmy specifically highlighted concerns about the E1 plan, which is seen as an attempt to divide the West Bank and isolate East Jerusalem from its Palestinian surroundings. According to Union of OIC News Agencies, Fahmy's statement emphasized that Israeli actions in Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon reflect a strategy reliant on force and the imposition of a fait accompli, while also violating state sovereignty. He asserted that these settlement activities are intended to undermine the potential establishment of an independent and contiguous Palestinian state. Fahmy urged the Security Council and the international community to take concrete measures to halt Israeli settlement activities and violations. He called for accountability for those responsible, warning that the lack of accountability encourages Israel to continue actions that contravene international law.
