Arab League Secretary-General Denounces Israeli Actions in Gaza and Jerusalem

DOHA: Arab League Secretary-General Ahmad AbulGheit strongly condemned the ongoing actions by Israeli forces in the northern Gaza Strip and Jerusalem, which he described as massacres and severe human rights violations. AbulGheit highlighted the devastating impact on the Palestinian population, citing extensive casualties and deliberate infrastructural damage.

According to Kuwait News Agency, AbulGheit expressed grave concerns over the Israeli forces’ strategic operations in Gaza, particularly in Jabalia where scores of Palestinian casualties have been reported. He accused Israel of exploiting global distractions to intensify its military and settlement activities in the region. AbulGheit alleged that Israel’s ultimate goal is the geographical and demographic separation of northern Gaza from the rest of the Strip, aiming to forcibly displace its inhabitants.

Further, the Arab League chief criticized Israel’s tactics of denying essential services such as water and food to the people of Gaza, and the targeted
destruction of health facilities. He articulated that these actions form part of a broader Israeli strategy to subjugate and displace the Palestinian people.

In a related development, AbulGheit condemned the Israeli confiscation of land in Jerusalem, previously hosting the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). He claimed that the site is being transformed into a settlement outpost, indicating a systematic effort to undermine the agency’s operations and eliminate its presence.

Highlighting the critical role played by UNRWA in supporting Palestinian refugees, AbulGheit called for international intervention to protect the agency from what he described as one of the most severe liquidation attempts against a UN body by Israel.
