ARAJI URGES STATE TO REFRAIN FROM LIFTING SUBSIDIES ON MEDICINES

NNA – In an interview with the “Voice of All Lebanon” radio station on Wednesday, MP Assem Araji affirmed that medicine importers would soon release the medicines stored in their warehouses once the medicine subsidy reimbursement report of the Central Bank and Health Ministry’s joint auditing committee is issued either today, or tomorrow.

Araji added that medicine importers also awaited a pledge from the Central Bank to refrain from lifting subsidies on medicines for incurable diseases and infant formula milk. “They are hoping to receive a list from the Ministry of Health specifying the medicines that will be included in the new subsidy list,” he added.

Araji went on to point out that the Health Committee and the Caretaker Prime Minister had agreed with Central Bank Governor, Riad Salameh, on the necessity not to lift subsidies on the aforementioned items.

Most importantly, Araji stressed the need to halt the smuggling of medicines abroad.
