Art Exhibition in Amman Highlights Suffering in Gaza Through Gazan Artists’ Works

AMMAN: An art exhibition showcasing the works of Gazan artists opened on Tuesday at Darat al Funun, the Khaled Shoman Foundation in Amman, Jordan. The exhibition, emphasizing the impact of Israeli actions in Gaza, features works that narrate the experiences and hardships faced by Palestinians over the past year. According to Jordan News Agency, the exhibition includes 79 paintings and three video art pieces by artists Basil al-Maqousi, Majid Shalla, Raed Issa, and Suhail Salem. Notably, the artists could not attend the opening as they are currently in Gaza. The artworks vividly portray the human suffering and the severe consequences of the conflict on daily life in Gaza. This includes themes of destruction, loss, and the resilience of the Palestinian people amidst ongoing conflict. The deputy director of Darat al Funun, Mohammad Shaqdih, shared insights into the materials and themes of the artworks displayed. The pieces utilize simple yet profound media, including ballpoint pens on school notebooks, medicin e bottles, and old papers, along with natural dyes made from pomegranate, hibiscus, and tea. These materials reflect the scarcity and the dire conditions under which these artists operate. Shaqdih emphasized that the artworks serve as living testimonies to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. They not only depict scenes of destruction and despair but also encapsulate deep emotional and cultural narratives, highlighting the impact on both human lives and cultural heritage. The exhibition, which will run until the end of this month, aims to bring international attention to the plight of Gazans by conveying their stories through art.
