AUB Celebrates Legacy of Alumni and Students at Annual Ceremony

Beirut: The American University of Beirut (AUB) hosted its annual Legacy Ceremony, welcoming a new class of students who are children and/or grandchildren of alumni. The event brought together senior university leadership, deans, faculty, and alumni families to celebrate tradition, continuity, and the deep-rooted bond between AUB and the generations who have upheld its legacy.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Salma Oueida, associate vice president for development, alumni relations, and university events, addressed the students and their families, emphasizing the strength of tradition and the lasting bonds within the AUB community. She acknowledged the contributions of alumni families to AUB's history and encouraged the new students to continue the legacy of resilience, creativity, and service. Oueida highlighted the transformative power of education and urged students to add their own chapters to the university's story.

Antoine Sabbagh, director of admissions and financial aid, reflected on the importance of preserving continuity across generations. He expressed confidence in the new students' ability to advance progress, noting that over 200 sons and daughters of alumni benefited from legacy admissions considerations for the 2024-25 academic year, with many receiving significant financial assistance.

Dr. Nayla Al-Akl, dean of student affairs, encouraged students to embrace their role in shaping AUB's legacy, emphasizing that a legacy is dynamic and ever-evolving. She called on students to design, advance, and elevate the institution's offerings for future generations. Dr. Fadlo Khuri, president of AUB, spoke about the university's resilience and commitment to academic excellence despite challenges and changes. He highlighted the special connection students have with AUB and the strength of the alumni network.

Michel Bayoud, an alumni parent, shared his personal reflections on witnessing his daughter begin her journey at AUB, expressing his belief in the university as the best choice for his child's education. The event concluded with a traditional group photo and a reception, celebrating AUB's rich tradition and the new generation's role in shaping its legacy.
