Bassil Highlights Lebanon as a Beacon of Freedom and Diversity Amid Regional Tensions

Beirut: Free Patriotic Movement leader, MP Gebran Bassil, took to his platform "X" page on Sunday to emphasize Lebanon's role as a sanctuary of freedom and diversity in a region marked by religious tensions. Bassil's message came as he reflected on the challenges faced by Christians in neighboring countries during religious celebrations. He stated that while Christians in Syria can celebrate inside churches, they fear for their safety when holding Easter processions outdoors. In Israel, he noted, police actions have prevented a patriarch from reaching the church and have prohibited the celebration of Easter Mass.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Bassil underscored Lebanon's unique position with its 10,452 km² territory as a homeland that embraces freedom, diversity, and peace. He advocated for an open society, rejecting isolation and obscurantism, while wishing everyone a blessed Palm Sunday. His comments come at a time when regional stability and religious freedoms remain a significant concern for communities throughout the Middle East.
