Bassil Visits Bisri as Part of Jezzine Tour, Criticizes Corruption Allegations Targeting His Energy Ministry Mandate

Jezzine: Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Gebran Bassil toured the region of Jezzine on Saturday, where he had a stop-over in Bisri with a group of young people.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Bassil praised the Jezzinites for being deeply-rooted in their country despite everything happening around them. He stated that during his tenure, he was informed about the Bisri Dam project and was pleased with it, emphasizing that the location is suitable for building a dam that would become the second largest after the Qaraoun Dam.

Bassil highlighted that the Bisri Dam is the least expensive dam in Lebanon, costing $120 million, with expropriations worth $150 million. He elaborated on its value, noting that it would supply water to areas including Jezzine, Chouf, eastern Sidon, the Iqlim, the coast of Baabda, Aley, and Beirut, compared to the current system that supplies two million Lebanese at a cost of approximately $1 billion.

He criticized the handling of the Bisri Dam issue, attributing it to waste expenditure and suggesting that a political mafia is hindering development. Bassil pointed out that each dam project faces obstructions and excuses for why dams aren't built.

Bassil addressed corruption allegations targeting his movement and bloc during their time at the Energy Ministry, asserting that despite thorough investigations, no corruption cases will be found. He encouraged Lebanon's youth to discern between truth and falsehood, declaring a commitment to continue their path, transforming politics into action.
