Bassil Warns of Prolonged War, Calls for Neutrality and State-Centered Defense Strategy

Beirut: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gebran Bassil, on Thursday warned that the war's duration remains unpredictable, linking its continuation to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's political calculations.

According to National Nws Aency - Lebanon, Bassil cautioned against Lebanon's entanglement in regional conflicts, stressing the need for neutrality and a unified national agenda. Bassil criticized Hezbollah for "dragging Lebanon into war," while acknowledging its capacity for resilience, and called for integrating its role within the state framework.

Moreover, Bassil rejected both internal conflict and foreign intervention, urging stronger support for the Lebanese Army and a comprehensive government defense plan. Bassil also backed negotiations only if they secure a just and lasting peace restoring Lebanon's full rights.
