Berri Addresses Lebanon’s Challenges in Speech on Imam al-Sadr’s Disappearance Anniversary

Beirut: House Speaker Nabih Berri, in a televised speech marking the 47th anniversary of Imam Mousa al-Sadr's disappearance, articulated the pressing dangers facing Lebanon, emphasizing that the "satanic minds" behind political discord pose a greater threat than the resistance's weapons. He underscored the importance of these arms in Lebanon's liberation, dignity, and sovereignty.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Berri condemned the ongoing political campaigns that aim to undermine a foundational sect of the Lebanese entity. He criticized those who persist in creating political vacuums and discord, both historically and in the present. Despite these challenges, Berri expressed openness to discussing the future of the resistance's weaponry through peaceful dialogue based on constitutional frameworks and international agreements to ensure Lebanon's security and territorial integrity.

Berri highlighted the nation's commitment to constitutional principles, refusing to resort to threats or breach established agreements, including the ceasefire agreement associated with Resolution 1701. He warned against the dangers posed by ignorance and fanaticism, which he believes could lead to national ruin.

The Speaker also addressed proposals from an American paper, suggesting they exceed mere arms control and threaten to replace the existing ceasefire agreement. He criticized Israel's continued violations of Lebanese sovereignty and its refusal to withdraw from occupied territories, challenging Lebanon's efforts to adhere to international agreements.

Berri emphasized the critical role of the Lebanese Army as a national safeguard, rejecting any attempts to burden the army with political conflicts. He reiterated the army's essential role in implementing Resolution 1701 and maintaining civil peace across Lebanon.

Concluding his speech, Berri reaffirmed a commitment to preserving Lebanon, honoring the legacy of Imam Mousa al-Sadr, and maintaining peace and security throughout the nation.
