Berri Engages in Discussions on South Lebanon and Educational Issues


Beirut: House Speaker Nabih Berri met with several key figures at the Second Presidency headquarters in Ain al-Tineh. Among the attendees was General Diodato Abagnara, the Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), accompanied by Imran Riza, the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Lebanon. The discussions centered on developments in southern Lebanon, particularly within the operational area of UN forces.



According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the meeting addressed UNIFIL’s role, including its humanitarian and economic responsibilities and its support of the Lebanese Army in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1701. Talks included the force’s future presence in the region and potential options under consideration. Berri emphasized the significance of maintaining UNIFIL’s mission as per Resolution 1701 until its full implementation and advocated for supporting the Lebanese Army’s mission to deploy to the international border once the Israeli conflict concludes.



In a separate meeting, Berri engaged with MP Faisal Karami to discuss the general situation, recent political events, and legislative matters. The conversation covered national affairs and the latest updates from the political and field landscapes.



Additionally, Berri met with MP Bilal Abdallah, head of the Parliamentary Health Committee and part of the “Democratic Gathering.” Their discussions revolved around the current political climate, particularly in light of the US-Iran agreement and its potential impact on Lebanon.



Later, Berri held talks with Minister of National Education and Higher Education Rima Karami, focusing on the country’s educational landscape and the issue surrounding official examinations.
