Berri Engages in Key Diplomatic Meetings Amid Rising Israeli Aggression.

Beirut: House Speaker Nabih Berri conducted a series of crucial meetings on Wednesday at the second presidential residence in Ain el-Tineh, focusing on the escalating political and security situation in Lebanon against the backdrop of increased Israeli aggression. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Speaker Berri's engagements included discussions with U.S. Presidential Envoy Amos Hochstein, who was accompanied by U.S. Ambassador Lisa Johnson and Berri's media advisor Ali Hamdan. The hour-long discussion revolved around regional developments, Israel's escalating attacks, and ongoing political efforts. Hochstein, addressing reporters post-meeting, mentioned, "We have made further progress, and I will head to Israel in two hours to try to reach a resolution if possible." He refrained from disclosing negotiation details but expressed optimism about the progress achieved. Additionally, Speaker Berri met with Admiral Edward Ahlgren, Senior Advisor to the UK Ministry of Defense for the Middle East and No rth Africa, along with UK Ambassador Hamish Cowell. The talks centered on developments in Lebanon and the broader region, with a particular focus on supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF). Ambassador Cowell highlighted the constructive nature of the discussions and reiterated the UK's support for Lebanon, emphasizing the importance of securing a ceasefire. In a separate protocol visit, Berri welcomed Swedish Ambassador to Lebanon, Jessica Svardstrom, marking the commencement of her diplomatic mission. The meeting underscored the significance of Sweden-Lebanon relations. In celebration of Lebanon's Independence Day, Speaker Berri also received a congratulatory cable from Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, who emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation between the two nations' parliaments to strengthen bilateral ties. Moreover, Berri announced the convening of the Bureau of the Lebanese Parliament on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 12:00 pm to dis cuss the legislative agenda and other pressing matters.
