Berri Engages with Former Leaders and U.S. Ambassador on Lebanon’s Latest Developments

Beirut: Speaker of the House, Nabih Berri, engaged in significant discussions at Ain el-Tineh, welcoming former prime ministers Najib Mikati, Fouad Siniora, and Tammam Salam to address Lebanon's ongoing challenges. The dialogue centered on the political climate and field updates in the wake of Israel's persistent actions against Lebanon, as well as the situation involving displaced persons.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Speaker Berri emphasized the importance of employing a specific mechanism as a framework for implementing a ceasefire. Following the discussions, Siniora communicated on behalf of the former premiers, condemning Israel's actions, which they termed as "war crimes," including airstrikes and forced displacements impacting the south and Beirut's suburbs. The former leaders extended condolences to victims and expressed solidarity with displaced citizens, urging for national unity and support for affected communities.

The delegation supported governmental decisions that affirm the exclusive prerogative of the state over matters of war and peace, emphasizing that arms should remain solely with the Lebanese government across the nation's territory. They also expressed their full support for President Joseph Aoun, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and Speaker Berri's efforts to garner international backing to cease Israeli aggressions. Additionally, they endorsed a new initiative by President Aoun during a virtual meeting with European leaders, highlighting the necessity of maintaining Lebanese unity amid current adversities.

In a separate meeting, Speaker Berri conferred with former Deputy Speaker Elie Ferzli on political and field developments along with national affairs. Later, discussions with Minister of Labor Dr. Mohammad Haidar included a focus on political updates, the issue of displaced persons, and ongoing work programs by the Ministry of Labor.

This afternoon, U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon, Michael Issa, met with Speaker Berri at Ain el-Tineh to review Lebanon's latest developments and political updates.
