Beirut: House Speaker Nabih Berri on Monday hosted French Ambassador to Lebanon, Herv© Magro, at the Ain al-Tineh headquarters as Magro's diplomatic tenure in the country concluded. Speaker Berri's Advisor, Dr. Mahmoud Berri, was present during this farewell meeting, which served as a platform to evaluate the general situation and recent political changes, especially amid Israel's ongoing assaults on southern Lebanese regions under occupation.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Speaker Berri also convened with a delegation of Sunni MPs, accompanied by MP Ali Hassan Khalil from the 'Development and Liberation' parliamentary bloc. This meeting concentrated on the current political climate and legislative matters, with a particular focus on the proposed General Amnesty Law. The Sunni MPs delegation comprised of Bilal Abdullah, Adnan Traboulsi, Bilal Hashimi, Abdul Rahman Bizri, Muhammad Yehya, Taha Naji, Walid Al-Baarini, Karim Kabbara, Nabil Badr, Muhammad Suleiman, Abdul Aziz Al-Samad, Imad Al-Hout, Ahmed Al-Khair, and Qassem Hashem. MP Bilal Abdullah emphasized the discussion's focus on the General Amnesty Law, highlighting the necessity to address the issue from both national and humanitarian perspectives.
In another significant engagement, Berri met with Jean Arnault, the Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon (UNSCOL). Their discussions centered on Lebanon's general condition and the latest political and security developments, particularly in view of the persistent Israeli offensives on occupied southern Lebanese towns and villages.
