Beirut: The cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, on Monday discussed measures to strengthen electricity supply during the summer, Information Minister Paul Morcos said after the weekly ministerial meeting.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Morcos said Salam briefed ministers on his recent visit to Turkey, where he stressed Lebanon's independent negotiating position and the need for a swift Israeli withdrawal. Talks with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also covered a proposed electricity interconnection linking Turkey, Syria, and Lebanon, Turkish investment in Lebanese infrastructure, reviving the bilateral free trade agreement, and reactivating the Tripoli-Homs and Beirut-Damascus railway lines.
The Cabinet also reviewed Economy and Trade Minister Amer Bisat's visit to Syria, which Salam said had produced tangible results. Morcos stated that the 42 bilateral agreements between Lebanon and Syria would be reviewed by the relevant ministers, while discussions also focused on improving procedures at border crossings, particularly Masnaa, to facilitate cross-border movement.
