Chemical Industries Sector in Jordan Reaches JD4.3 Billion in Production

AMMAN: The chemical industries and cosmetics sector in Jordan has achieved a production volume of approximately JD4.3 billion, accounting for 24% of the total production in the kingdom's industrial sector, a stakeholder has announced. According to Jordan News Agency, Ahmed Elbes, the sector's representative in the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI), highlighted that the added value in the chemical industries sector is about 1.7%, translating to 40% of the total current production within the Jordanian industry. Elbes remarked that the sector has undergone a significant transformation, with its products becoming integral to daily life, underscoring its pivotal role in the national economy. Elbes emphasized the ongoing Royal interest and support, stressing the importance of expanding production operations to achieve self-sufficiency. This Royal vision is crucial for bolstering foreign currency reserves and enhancing the production chains across various agricultural, commercial, and industrial projects. However, Elbes also pointed out a decline in the sector's exports over the past seven months compared to the previous year, attributed to a drop in export values to India and Bangladesh by JD256 million and JD11 million, respectively.
