Beirut: Former Prime Ministers Najib Mikati, Fouad Siniora, and Tammam Salam visited former Progressive Socialist Party Chief Walid Jumblatt at his Clemenceau Residence in Beirut. The meeting also included Democratic Gathering Head, MP Taymour Jumblatt, and members of the Democratic Gathering.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the visit was aimed at expressing solidarity with Jumblatt and his party's significant Arab and national stances during this challenging period. The attendees condemned Israel's actions in Syria, criticizing its interference in Syria's internal affairs, which they described as unacceptable and aimed at creating discord among the Syrian populace.
The group stressed the necessity for an immediate ceasefire and urged all parties to commit to it. They emphasized the importance of liberating kidnapped individuals, lifting sieges, and restoring public services. The conferees advocated for establishing communication and understanding among Syrian citizens to prevent further conflict and bloodshed. They also called for dialogue based on the unity of Syrian identity and citizenship to maintain Syria's territorial integrity.
An impartial investigation was urged to hold accountable those responsible for inciting sedition and violence against civilians. The former prime ministers praised Walid Jumblatt's national and pan-Arab stances and valued the Druze Religious Council's efforts, led by Druze Sheikh Al-Aql Sami Abi Al-Mona, in resisting divisive plans.
The leaders condemned any attempts to exploit the Syrian situation to instigate tension in Lebanon, denouncing actions that fuel sectarian and religious divides. They commended the Syrian state's efforts to promote dialogue and unity, highlighting its commitment to fostering citizenship and justice for all Syrian citizens.
