Cultural Cooperation Talks between Lebanon and Syria Focus on Comprehensive Agreement

Rabat:The meeting between Lebanon's Minister of Culture, Dr. Ghassan Salame', and his Syrian counterpart, Mohammed Yassin Saleh, took place at the National Library today. They discussed enhancing cultural and archaeological cooperation and explored a proposed comprehensive agreement. Syria's chargé d'affaires in Lebanon, Iyad al-Hazzaa, accompanied Saleh.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, the meeting was attended by several officials, including Director General of Antiquities Sarkis Khoury and Executive Director of the National Library Jilnar Atwi Saad. Minister Salame' emphasized the need for practical cooperation in cultural industries and archaeology to support economic recovery in both countries.

Salame' expressed his expectation for a return visit to Damascus to sign a comprehensive cooperation agreement. Saleh highlighted the importance of building a special relationship based on principles set by their leaders and governments, focusing on cultural cooperation across various disciplines.

Saleh also discussed cultural projects that transcend borders, covering areas like publishing, music, drama, cinema, archaeology, and museums. He emphasized the role of the Ministry of Culture in fostering opportunities for creative minds.

The Syrian minister addressed ongoing judicial cooperation concerning Lebanese detainees held by the former regime and affirmed the partnership's cultural significance, referencing shared cultural icons. After the meeting, the ministers toured the National Library and visited an exhibition on Lebanon's constitutional history, concluding with an exchange of commemorative gifts.
