DEWA Explores U.S. Solar Technologies to Bolster Dubai’s Clean Energy Initiatives

DUBAI: A delegation from the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), led by Managing Director and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, conducted an inspection tour of Southern Power's Garland Solar Facility and Clearway Energy Group's Daggett Solar Site in California. The visit was aimed at exploring the integration of photovoltaic solar panels with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to potentially implement similar projects in Dubai. According to Emirates News Agency, the delegation's inspection focused on understanding global best practices and expertise in solar energy technology. DEWA is currently generating clean energy using various methods, including photovoltaic solar panels and Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) technologies. These technologies are crucial for continuous, large-scale electricity generation in Dubai. Al Tayer emphasized the importance of strategic cooperation with U.S. energy companies, aligning with directives from UAE leadership to harness advanced technologies and improve quality of life. This initiative supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, both aiming for 100 percent clean energy production by mid-century. DEWA is investing in significant projects, such as the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is set to be the largest single-site solar park globally with a capacity exceeding 5,000 megawatts by 2030. Al Tayer reiterated DEWA's commitment to advancing technologies, enhancing efficiency, and reducing carbon emissions in electricity generation.
