Economy Ministry Reviews Efforts to Upgrade Oman’s Status on International Competitiveness Map

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Economy held a press briefing titled "Towards a more competitive Oman," examining the nation's progress in enhancing its international competitiveness. The meeting focused on initiatives since the launch of Oman Vision 2040, highlighting significant advancements in competitiveness indicators and plans for future engagement with global organizations. According to Oman News Agency, the briefing underscored Oman's advancements in several key performance indicators, reflecting the government's commitment to the objectives outlined in Oman Vision 2040. The meeting followed up on the implementation of annual plans by national teams tasked with boosting competitiveness and fostering integration among relevant government departments. It also discussed future steps, such as preparations for joining the International Institute for Management Development and seeking membership in the World Bank's Business Readiness Index by 2025. Dr. Said bin Mohammed Al Saqri, Minister of Economy, emphasized t he importance of the briefing as a platform for dialogue with experts and those interested in economic affairs. He highlighted substantial progress in indicators critical to achieving Oman Vision 2040 goals. Notably, Oman climbed to 54th globally in the Environmental Performance Index, a significant rise from 149th two years ago. Additionally, Oman advanced to 56th place in the Economic Freedom Index from 95th, according to the Heritage Foundation for 2024. The minister also noted improvements in the E-Government Index, where Oman moved from 50th to 41st place, and in all six global governance indicators issued by the World Bank. The National Competitiveness Office shared a visual presentation detailing efforts to elevate Oman's status in global indicators through law and regulation development and communication with institutions that produce competitiveness reports, aiming to update data pertinent to the Sultanate of Oman.
