Islamabad: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty announced Cairo's intention to develop a joint roadmap with Pakistan for 2026, aiming to enhance bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
According to Anadolu Agency, a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry revealed that Abdelatty delivered a written message from President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari. This message, conveyed during Abdelatty's official visit to Islamabad, emphasized the importance of deepening bilateral ties between the two nations.
The discussions also included the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2803 concerning the Gaza Strip and advancing the second phase of US President Donald Trump's ceasefire plan, which was initiated in the Palestinian enclave on October 10. Abdelatty highlighted the necessity for an international stabilization force to fully operationalize the ceasefire, as stipulated in the resolution.
Additionally, Abdelatty reviewed the preparations for an international conference focused on early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza. Initially set for November, the conference has yet to be convened. The ceasefire agreement, brokered by Turkey, Egypt, and Qatar with US support, ended two years of Israeli military actions that resulted in over 70,000 deaths, primarily among women and children, and more than 170,000 injuries since October 2023.
The first phase of the ceasefire includes the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners, alongside plans for Gaza's reconstruction and the establishment of a new governance structure excluding Hamas.
