CAIRO: Egypt expressed Tuesday its absolute rejection of the statements made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused Netanyahu of attempting to distract the Israeli public opinion, and cripple negotiations - mediated by Egypt, Qatar and the United States - on achieving a ceasefire and prisoner exchange. The ministry stressed that Egypt holds the Israeli government accountable for the implications of such statements embodied in worsening the crisis, as they are a justification for the aggression and incitement policy that leads to more regional escalation. The statement reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to continuing its historical role in leading the peace process in the Middle East in the preservation of security and stability.
