New York:Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly to discuss regional stability, particularly in South Lebanon, and to enhance Lebanese-Egyptian economic cooperation.
According to National news agency - Lebanon, the talks included Lebanon's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Ahmad Arafa, and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. Madbouly expressed Egypt's support for Lebanon‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬€š¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬€š¬¦¾¢s sovereignty, security, stability, and territorial integrity, highlighting efforts to extend state authority and strengthen national institutions such as the Lebanese Army.
Salam expressed gratitude for Egypt's ongoing support for Lebanon and its contributions to reducing regional tensions. Discussions focused on consolidating stability in South Lebanon, emphasizing Israel's withdrawal from Lebanese territory and cessation of attacks. The Lebanese government aims to control weapons exclusively through state institutions and extend its authority nationwide.
The discussions also included the trilateral framework for addressing unresolved issues through negotiations and supporting recovery efforts for displaced residents. Both leaders stressed the importance of diplomatic solutions to prevent further regional escalation.
Economic conditions in Lebanon, Egypt, and the broader region were also addressed, with an emphasis on expanding trade, investment, and other areas of bilateral cooperation.
