Electricity Ministry Begins Installation of Eco-Friendly Lighting on Kuwait’s Gulf Road

KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy has launched a significant initiative to enhance energy efficiency and aesthetic appeal along the Gulf Road by replacing outdated lighting poles with eco-friendly alternatives. The project, which commenced following the completion of necessary infrastructure work, features poles adorned with designs that reflect Kuwaiti culture and heritage. According to Kuwait News Agency, Ministry official Eng. Ayman Al-Omani announced during a press conference that the project spans from the sixth ring road intersection to the Jamal Abdulnasser road intersection. It aims to reduce energy consumption by 50 to 60 percent. The initiative, valued at KD 2.466 million (approximately USD 8.1 million), is scheduled for completion over a 24-month period starting in December 2023. Al-Omani explained that the new lighting poles incorporate Islamic, geometric, and nautical motifs, adding a distinctive flair to the prominent Gulf Road. Although the Ministry enc ountered some challenges during the project's execution, these were resolved through collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works and the Public Authority of Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources. Contract Supervisor Eng. Mohammad Al-Sarraf emphasized the project's importance, noting that Gulf Road is one of Kuwait's most vital and touristic routes. Al-Sarraf also noted plans for a 10-year program to install new LED lighting poles and expand the use of decorative poles throughout the country.
