Elie Mahfoud Criticizes Militia Influence in Southern Lebanon

Nabatieh:Head of the "Change Movement" Party, Elie Mahfoud, expressed concerns over militia influence in Southern Lebanon through a post on his social media account. He emphasized that the region's future should be aligned with state governance rather than militia control.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, Mahfoud highlighted that the visit of Nawaf Salam to Nabatieh pointed to the local population's desire for state authority. He stated that the people of the South have suffered due to decisions not made by them, which resulted in wars, destruction, displacement, and occupation.

Mahfoud argued that those responsible for these actions should not expect continued trust from the public. He stressed that the South, its decisions on warfare, and its weaponry should all be under state control.

He further insisted that a militia cannot coexist as a decision-making partner with the State, as its independent existence is problematic. Mahfoud urged that discussions from Nabatieh should focus on the necessity of state protection and decision-making, rejecting a future for the South under militia influence.
