Emirates Airline’s Economic Contribution to Dubai Highlighted by Tim Clark

Dubai: Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, emphasized the symbiotic relationship between Emirates and Dubai, describing each entity as propelling the other to unprecedented heights. His comments came during a statement marking the 39th anniversary of the airline's founding, underlining Emirates' significant role in global air transport and its impact on Dubai's economy. According to Emirates News Agency, aviation accounted for 27 percent of Dubai's GDP in 2023, with the Emirates Group contributing AED75 billion in gross value added, representing 15 percent of the city's GDP. Emirates' operations, spanning six continents, have been identified as a key enabler in driving Dubai's economic diversification and international appeal, as highlighted by Clark. He attributed the airline's success to the visionary leadership of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who initiated the airline with a modest seed capital of US$10 million and a directive for self-reliance and excellence. Clark further noted the substantial economic impact of Emirates, which delivered billions in dividends and contributed significantly to Dubai's tourism sector. In 2023, the city welcomed over 17 million visitors, with Emirates carrying 54 percent of the international air travelers, generating an additional AED23 billion in aviation-supported tourism impact. Overall, Emirates' total economic contribution was AED98 billion, or 19 percent of Dubai's GDP. Looking ahead, projections by Oxford Economics suggest that Emirates Group's contribution to Dubai's economy could reach AED144 billion by 2030, representing 24 percent of the projected GDP. Clark also mentioned the strategic role of the forthcoming Al Maktoum International Airport, which is set to become the world's largest, further enhancing Dubai's capacity to accommodate growing travel demands and supporting the Emirates Group's growth trajectory.
