BRUSSELS: Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has highlighted the severity of the crisis in Lebanon, urging for immediate international efforts to end the military confrontation between Hezbollah and Israel, which has caused significant civilian suffering and disrupted Lebanon's social fabric. According to Emirates News Agency, Borrell emphasized in a statement from Brussels that the recent Paris Conference on Lebanon was a vital opportunity for the global community to reaffirm its dedication to providing both political and economic support to Lebanon at this crucial time. He stressed the importance of a swift ceasefire and the enforcement of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 as part of the European Union's strategy for a secure way forward. Borrell also noted the EU's ongoing support for Lebanese forces through the European Peace Facility, with a budget allocation of £21 million for the current year and plans to increase this to £4 0 million next year. He underscored the need for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) to remain in the south of the country with an enhanced mandate to ensure stability. In addition to military and political support, Borrell reaffirmed the EU's commitment to delivering unconditional emergency humanitarian aid to the Lebanese people, highlighting the bloc's continued focus on addressing the humanitarian needs arising from the ongoing crisis.
