Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji Discusses Lebanon’s Challenges and Reforms with European Delegation

Beirut: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Youssef Rajji, engaged in critical discussions with Stefano Sannino, the Director General for the Middle East and North Africa at the European Commission, and a visiting European Union delegation, including the EU Ambassador to Lebanon, Sandra de Waal.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Minister Rajji provided a comprehensive overview of the current situation in Lebanon and the wider region, focusing on the bilateral ties between Lebanon and the European Union. He expressed Lebanon's firm opposition to Israel's continued aggression, highlighting the daily attacks on the country's south and the renewed targeting of Beirut. Rajji urged the European Union and the international community to apply significant pressure on Israel to withdraw from occupied Lebanese territories and cease violations of Lebanon's sovereignty, in line with Security Council Resolution 1701.

The discussions also covered the issue of Syrian displacement within Lebanon. Minister Rajji stressed the urgency of initiating a process for the swift return of displaced Syrians to their home country, encouraging the European Union to reassess its stance given the significant changes in Syria. Additionally, he highlighted Lebanon's ongoing efforts in economic, financial, and administrative reforms, underscoring the government's commitment to advancing these initiatives.

Furthermore, the meeting explored strategies to enhance the strategic partnership between Lebanon and the European Union, aiming to strengthen bilateral relations. Minister Rajji confirmed Lebanon's collaboration with the EU to develop the new Mediterranean Charter, designed to bolster strategic cooperation between the European Commission and the southern and eastern Mediterranean nations.
