Baghdad / NINA / – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the decision to renew the United Nations mission came in response to the Iraqi government’s request for one time.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said that in order to enhance confidence in the electoral process and achieve wide participation in the elections, and to ensure integrity and organization, the Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution No. 2576, to renew the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), until May 27, 2022.
It explained that the resolution includes strong elements, adopted for the first time to send a UN team to monitor the elections in Iraq.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the decision came in response to a one-time request by the Iraqi government, with full commitment to the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Iraq, and by expressing support for the government’s efforts to address challenges and stabilize stability, and by full praise of the national efforts to implement early elections, and after the efforts made by partners, and with great efforts and his friends, and through the departments of competence in the ministry and following up the representation of the Republic of Iraq in New York.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that we are looking forward to providing a strong and clearly announced team of the United Nations, in coordination with the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), with the aim of supporting efforts aimed at the success of the electoral process at the scheduled time and with the widest possible geographical coverage and the launch of a strategic United Nations campaign to educate the Iraqi electorate of the importance of participating in the elections.
The Ministry highly valued the stances of international partners in support of the Iraqi government’s steps in this regard, which will reflect on the security, stability and well-being of the Iraqi people and what they aspire to for a decent life. / End
