Beirut: Former Minister of Industry, Georges Boujikian, has been indicted by Mount Lebanon Public Prosecutor, Judge Sami Sader, on charges of bribery and illicit enrichment. This development follows the lifting of Boujikian's parliamentary immunity, allowing for legal proceedings to move forward.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the indictment was issued after Cassation Public Prosecutor Judge Jamal Al-Hajjar forwarded the initial investigation findings to Judge Sader. Boujikian is accused of demanding bribes from factory owners in exchange for granting industrial licenses, an allegation that has raised significant concern.
Boujikian's legal representative had previously communicated his client's willingness to return from Canada to confront the charges. However, Boujikian's reported delay in returning prompted legal authorities to proceed with formal prosecution, signaling a critical moment in the case against the former minister.
