Beirut: Speaker of the House, Nabih Berri, on Tuesday welcomed former prime ministers, Najib Mikati, Fouad Siniora, and Tammam Salam at Ain el-Tineh. Following the meeting, Siniora delivered a statement on behalf of the delegation.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the former premiers condemned what they described as Israel's ongoing "war crimes" against Lebanon, including airstrikes, destruction and forced displacement of residents in the south and Beirut's southern suburbs.
They expressed condolences to the victims and solidarity with displaced Lebanese, calling for national unity and increased support for affected communities.
The delegation also backed government decisions affirming that war and peace must remain the prerogative of the state and that arms should be exclusively in the hands of the Lebanese state across all its territory.
They voiced full support for the efforts of President Joseph Aoun, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and Berri to mobilize international support to halt Israeli attacks, and endorsed a new initiative launched by Aoun during a virtual meeting organized by European leaders. They also stressed the importance of preserving Lebanese unity in the face of the country's current challenges.
