Beirut: Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) stated on Friday that Israel is committing "mass crimes against people, property, and the environment" in southern Lebanon and western Bekaa. The movement highlighted that the ongoing strikes are no longer confined to Hezbollah military targets, significantly impacting civilians, land, resources, and historical sites. FPM emphasized that the "systematic destruction of villages amounts to an attempt to erase life in the south."
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the displacement of residents from Jabal Amel is triggering a broader social and sectarian crisis in areas unable to accommodate them. Lebanon remains divided and unable to respond collectively to the situation. The FPM statement maintained that the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people from Jabal Amel aims to ignite a social and sectarian crisis in Lebanese regions ill-equipped to absorb them, leaving Lebanon divided and unable to confront the situation effectively.
The statement further noted that Lebanese divisions over major strategic issues, such as Hezbollah's weapons and decisions of war and peace, cannot be ignored. FPM underlined the necessity of building a capable state and restoring the full sovereign and defense responsibilities of legitimate institutions as a unifying national demand.
Despite these challenges, the FPM stressed that the scale and severity of the current escalation require unified efforts to prevent a "catastrophe." It concluded by stating, "this is not the time for blame, but for action," urging for unity and national dialogue to protect Lebanon from existential risks.
